Why Singles Think Dating Is A Game

Forty years ago dating was taken seriously. There were no dating sites, but there were dating services where you went into the office and put a profile together and were matched with the date of your dreams.

Sometimes the dates didn’t work out, but most of them did. There weren’t as many dating services so members were well taken care of. Most singles were looking for love and were getting married by the time they reached their mid-twenties.

If you’re older than that, you might just need to brush up on what’s going on. There’s been a big change. It’s not like what most singles thought dating was like in the 1970s and ’80s.

In the ’80s and ’90s, dating services were just thrown out. There were endless singles who wanted to meet someone, so the best way to meet them was to sign up for an internet dating service.

Unlike a traditional dating service, there’s no guarantee your date will call you to talk on a particular evening. By the time you talk to her on a special occasion, she might have forgets who you are. You’re generally not able to search other profiles to see who might be interested in you. Dating services are great at matching people on the basis of some other criteria, such as interests or hobbies. That means you’re generally not able to search for other people with the same interests as you.

That does not mean Facebook or MySpace is the only place to meet singles. There are more interesting and unique places to meet great dates. Dating services look at people’s profiles to find matches that are compatible. That does sound a bit formal, and it does limit to some of the options, but there are still plenty of ways to meet new people.

Take a look at museums. There’s no doubt that there are more and more museums coming up in your area that you’ll need to visit. Look for a special event at your nearby museums, such as an art exhibit or a new play. Go sneaking a peek during their opening weekend.

Or, check out a local park if you have a home. Many towns have little green spaces where people openly roam. If you have a dog, take it for a walk near a park and let your dog meet some new people.

Parks and Nature Clubs are also perfect for meeting singles. Many towns have public parks that are inexpensive to visit. If you have a dog, take it for a swim in the pond surrounded by the swings. Many people don’t like dogs, but others thrive in these waters. Take a beginner to a club to meet some new people.

There are clubs devoted to certain hobbies. If you do some reading in your area, find a club related to that activity and it could be a great meeting place.

If you don’t read, most towns have bookstores that sell books. Look in the newspaper for their weekly sale, and visit their bookstore on a weekend to peruse the books. Look around at the other tables to see if there are any single people around. Smile, and say hello to others who you think may be single. See what happens.

There are lots of places to go to and meet individuals. Look for events in your area that draw a lot of attention. Attend a hundredth-anniversary party at a local museum. Attend a church service, and see if you can pull someone from a crowd. These locales attract people with interesting hobbies and interests. Do your own research, but don’t claim to have all the answers. You can still try to meet someone new in these places.
